Soup for You!

Soup for You! is a 501c3 non-profit free soup café in the 

Longfellow (Minneapolis) neighborhood.

At Soup For You! (SFY!), our mission is “feed, nourish and comfort.” As we approach our 10th anniversary as a radical soup café, we continue to welcome all to a hearty lunch at no charge without regard to age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, housing status, immigration status, religion, socioeconomic status, or physical/mental health condition. That mission was even more critical and apparent during the pandemic and the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. We didn’t miss a day of service, immediately switching to distributing soup in bag lunches, along with groceries and hygiene items from our doors for over 112 weeks. 

2024 has been an exciting year for SFY! When the doors closed at Bethany Lutheran Church this spring (our home since day 1) we needed to find a new location with a large kitchen and a large open space to serve our growing number of guests. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in the Longfellow neighborhood graciously welcomed us into their space and we moved in June. We are thankful for the warm welcome and partnership shown by Holy Trinity and the surrounding neighborhood. 

Currently guests are served from 12-1pm Monday thru Friday. They are greeted with a warm welcome by our volunteers and order from a choice of 2-3 homemade soups such as Bombay Split Pea, Creamy Potato Dill Chowder, and Ginger Squash. These soups are accompanied by artisan breads, fresh fruits, salad and home baked desserts. On Tuesdays our house band "The Grateful Fed" provides music and singing for an extra special treat. Guests also enjoy our "People's Cooler" which contains many fresh produce and grocery items that guests can take with them as well as a larger grocery distribution on Wednesdays. People we serve include those experiencing homelessness and poverty, our neighbors from the Longfellow and Seward neighborhood (and beyond), local business people, low income seniors, and the list goes on. Our volunteers are often found sitting at a table with a listening ear to someone who may be struggling that day or just needs someone to talk to. Everyone working at SFY! is a volunteer - servers, line prep, dishwashers – with the exception of our managing chef. 

Everything SFY! has brought to our guests has been funded by caring and generous individuals and entities who believe in our mission and provide the funds, the time and the talent that keeps our doors open every weekday. We do not receive a single dollar of local, county, state, or federal government funding. Your contributions are vital in allowing us to continue what we love to do . . .feed the people!
