Shine a Ligh7 Foundation

Shine a Ligh7 is a champion for youth mental health education and awareness throughout Minnesota.

The Shine A Ligh7 Foundation supports programs that deliver youth mental health education and awareness across Minnesota. Founded in 2016 by NHL player Paul Martin, Shine A Ligh7 has partnered with local agencies, musicians, and athletes to shine a spotlight on the importance of youth mental health and find connection through sharing stories. Donated funds will be used to support our mental health awareness efforts, our mental health practitioner partners at M Health and Washburn Center for Children, as well as cover development costs for the mental wellness programs SAL7 is designing for Minnesota children. 

Currently, one in five young people will experience mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, attention-deficit or trauma, but only 20% of these children will get the professional care they need.  We not only want to change this statistic, but we want to help lead the change in attitude toward seeking mental health care.  We envision a world where no stigma is attached to mental health and youth are empowered to share their stories and let their soul shine.  

As the founder of SAL7, Paul is committed to being a champion for youth mental health. Having had family members and close friends take their lives and having experience navigating his own mental health journey, Paul leads Shine A Ligh7 with a focus on the 4 M’s — Mental Health, Mindfulness, Music, and Minnesota.
