The Shannon Leadership Institute is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of visionary leaders committed to positive change in their communities and beyond. Since its founding in 1992, over 1,300 people have participated in the program.  The Shannon cohort model nurtures the creativity and vitality of community-serving leaders from all sectors. Through a structured, challenging, and supportive opportunity, community-serving leaders clarify the purpose of their work and the core values they want that work to exemplify. The result is purposeful and effective leadership with a renewed commitment to community service. 

A Journey of Discovery, Growth, and Challenge

For the last 30 years, the Shannon has operated within and been supported by other organizations, namely the Council of Foundations and the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation. In 2021, the Institute became an independent, 501(c)3- nonprofit organization, continuing its commitment to serving a dynamic network of community leaders here in Minnesota and beyond. 

The Shannon Board of Directors, its program facilitators, and trusted advisors are now undergoing a period of reflection and renewal, building on the Shannon's 30-year legacy to set the stage for its future. The Shannon's own "Renewal Plan" includes a new mission and vision, a strategic framework to guide the work ahead, and a financial plan that will ensure the Shannon remains a vital part of our community's leadership ecosystem for generations to come.
