Ruth's House of Hope

Your gift will make a TREMENDOUS IMPACT on the lives of women and children in crisis situations by helping to provide safe shelter, food, basic needs, and the supportive services needed to heal, grow, and overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. 

Family violence occurs in 1 out of 4 American homes. Ruth’s House is a nonprofit emergency and transitional home for women and children who are breaking free from traumatic situations. Every year Ruth’s House provides approximately 7,000 nights of safe housing, food, resources, and renewed hope to those who find themselves with nowhere to go. *Lucy* shares (name changed for privacy): 

Home had become a difficult and unpredictable place, leaving Lucy living in a hotel room with her premature infant son. 

Lucy shares, “I’d run out of money and had nowhere to go. I was referred to Ruth’s House and was so happy when we were accepted! The staff were friendly, which helped me feel more comfortable. The personal support that I got meant the world to me! My case manager worked with me as I set goals and gave me a lot of encouragement and the resources to help me work towards my goals.” 

When Lucy first arrived at Ruth’s House, she struggled to connect with her son, and she lacked the skills and understanding to properly care for an infant. Her health was in jeopardy, she was unemployed, and Lucy had lost hope. Staff shares, “It was such a joy to watch Lucy begin to bond with her son! She was playing with him, reading to him, cuddling him, and it wasn’t long before he’d captured her heart. Lucy was taking charge of her own health, meeting with our volunteer to gain understanding around budgeting, saving, and increasing her credit score, and she was planning for her future!" 

Lucy recently moved into her own apartment and is enrolled in college. She went from feeling stuck in her circumstances to a renewed hope as she got back on her feet. She shares, “I’m excited to continue to grow with my son, and I’m excited about my future! I’m thankful to Ruth’s House and the support and help they gave me. It empowered me to find my voice so I could set healthy boundaries for my life, take charge of my health, become confident as a mother, and realize that I can do anything I put my mind to!”
