Mission

"The Pope County Historical Society's mission is to foster among people an awareness of Pope County history so that we may draw strength and perspective from the past and find purpose for the future."

Programs

The Pope County Historical Society is the keeper of community memory.  We actively collect physical artifacts and archival documentation of individuals, families and businesses across the county.  From 1000+ year old copper spear points to last week's reports of life transitions - births, marriages, deaths, business starts and stops - we trace the development of Pope County.  

The Museum Collection is electronically cataloged allowing us to retrieve information at a moment's notice.  Our family history files are especially valuable to trace ancestors and learn about their lives as they built our community.

We serve approximately 5000 visitors annually.
