Playwrights’ Center sustains, develops, and advocates for playwrights and their work to realize their full artistic potential.

Through the practice of inclusive theater-making, Playwrights’ Center fosters engagement towards an equitable, empathetic, and boundlessly imaginative world.

From our Center in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, we serve 2,500+ playwrights and theater makers across the United States and internationally, representing a vast array of identities, experience levels, aesthetics, and relationships to the professional theater field.

Here at Playwrights’ Center, we are regularly reminded of a fundamental truth at the core of our mission: storytelling is the path of change. Whether we are speaking truth to power or to one another, sharing stories is a civic act, and we each share the responsibility and the pleasure of listening—opening our ears and hearts to our neighbors as we build understanding and connection.

As the world and the theater landscape have changed, the resources we provide have become more scarce and harder to access. While other organizations have had to close their doors to living playwrights, we’re opening new ones, and we are proud to be meeting this moment by building a new home for artists, audiences, and neighbors alike.
