Pass Down The Gown serves people in Minnesota and beyond by providing a free, sustainable, dress renting service for prom, homecoming, and other formal events .


We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Saint Paul, Minnesota — run by girls, for girls. Our founder began this organization at 17 by asking friends to donate their prom dresses. Eight years later, our initiative continues to grow as a student-led, all-volunteer effort with a core team of 24 dedicated high school students.

Here’s a glimpse of how our volunteers make it happen:

  1. Operations volunteers handle each donation by measuring and cataloging dress for our website
  2. Marketing volunteers coordinate photoshoots and manage our social media to bring each dress to life
  3. Outreach volunteers host pop-ups and events, creating meaningful connections across Minnesota. 
  4. Fundraising volunteers lead our fundraisers, ensuring we can continue our mission for years to come. 

At the heart of our mission is meeting students where they are. We host pop-ups at high schools so students can browse and rent dresses in person, offer free shipping and local pickup, partner with local businesses for events, and have our volunteers decide how best to serve their communities.
