Owatonna Parks and Recreation Scholarship Program

What we do:

We are an organization who raises funds to provide assistance to Youth, Kid’s First and Adaptive Recreation adults who cannot afford Parks and Recreation programs.  

Who we serve: 

All youth ages 18 months - 6th grade who participate in Owatonna Parks and Recreation Programs.  This includes all Steele County residents (Owatonna, Medford, and Blooming Prairie school districts) 

All youth and adult Adaptive Recreation Parks and Recreation programs

All 7th-8th grade Kids First athletics through Community Education. 

Where do I apply for a scholarship:

You can print a form off our website at www.owatonna.gov or stop into the Parks and Rec office and fill out the application.  When you fill out the application, you will need to provide proof of 1 of the following (Once per year):  Educational Benefits (formerly free/reduced lunch), Social Security, or Medical assistance.  

When do I apply:

You can apply anytime prior to each registration period.  Typically, we have Spring registration at the end of February, Summer registration beginning of May, Fall registration end of July and Winter registration beginning of October.  Please check our website or call our office at 444-4321 for exact dates.

Why would I apply for a scholarship? 

If you are having any kind of hardship, we do our best to accommodate any situation.  Fill out the application and give a brief explanation of why you are requesting funds.   

After you submit the application and are approved, you will pay 40% of the program cost.  The scholarship will cover 60% of the program cost.  

Equipment is available for check out for most programs such as shin guards (soccer), football equipment (shoulder pads, pants, pads, helmets, shoes), baseball and softball gloves, and cleats for all programs.
