Our Purpose:

Since 1978, the Humane Society of Otter Tail County, in Fergus Falls, MN, has provided a safety net of care and services to abandoned, abused, homeless, injured, lost, neglected, stray, surrendered, and unwanted animals across Otter Tail County. We give animals in need a fresh start. HSOTC is an independent private nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization and not affiliated with, nor receives funds from any national animal welfare organizations. HSOTC is funded locally through donations. 

   Basic Services: We provide shelter, food, medical assessment, preventative care and treatment and comfort to all animals in our care 365 days/year. Daily operations of our shelter are managed by an accredited veterinary technician. Our staff delivers care with the support of veterinary health partners and volunteers. 
  
Emergencies:  We maintain emergency kennels to receive strays from police during off-duty hours. 

Adoption: We strive to place every adoptable animal into a new and caring home. Essential vaccinations and micro-chips are provided as the first step toward quality care and maximum health. Most animals are spayed or neutered. All potential adopters are carefully screened before their application is approved. We place more than 90% of adoptable animals through adoption, foster care and our  animal welfare / rescue partners.

Neglect / Animal Cruelty:  We provide support to law enforcement for investigations of animal neglect, cruelty, hoarding and matters of public health and safety. 

Education: We are happy to match schools, groups or organizations with a speaker, educational materials or a tour. Creating a pet-friendly community is an important mission of HSOTC, as well as  cultivating well-informed and caring pet owners for the future.

Programs: We maintain volunteer programs that support animal well-being through exercise and enrichment  activities. Volunteers furnish vital assistance from animal care, grounds care to social media to fundraising.
