Northwoods Humane Society

At Northwoods, we work hard to understand and meet the needs of each animal that comes through our doors. All of the nearly 1,300 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens receive love and individualized care, food, housing, enrichment, medical services and spay or neuter surgery before we send them home with their new family.  During Give to the Max, we focus on refilling our Above and Beyond Fund, raising dollars for the animals that need a little more care- specialized treatments, costly medications, hospitalization, specialized surgery, or professional behavioral intervention - before they're ready for their new homes. The Above And Beyond Fund ensures that we have the ability to help those animals. **On Give to the Max Day, November 21, we'll be sharing the stories on Facebook of the of the animals helped by the Above And Beyond Fund in 2024!**

Northwoods Humane Society was founded in 1975 by community members who saw a need for sheltering animals. All of these animals were placed in foster homes until 2000 when we opened for our location at 7153 Lake Blvd in Wyoming, MN. 

Providing compassionate care and safe shelter for animals is the core of our work. We accept dogs and cats from owners who can no longer care for them through our Surrender Program, reunite families with their lost animals through our Lost & Found Program, connect animals in our care with permanent, loving homes through our Adoption Program, and improve broader conditions for animals by offering educational opportunities for students and community groups. 

In 2020, we built an on-site veterinary medicine program, hiring a veterinarian and surgery team. This has allowed us to provide spay and neuter surgeries for every pet prior to adoption along with any needed medical care, including diagnosis and treatment for illness or injury, for the animals at Northwoods. All adoptable animals remain in our care until they find new homes.

Our adoption center is open Tuesday - Friday from noon to 5 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 pm. Intake appointments to surrender an animal are by appointment only.
