We collaborate with responsible racing owners, trainers, and track adoption groups to identify racing greyhounds ready for retirement. Together we work to transport these wonderful greyhounds to Minnesota.
Once a retired racing greyhound arrives at NLGA he/she undergoes a complete veterinary check, including a blood chemistry profile, thyroid panel, heartworm/tick panel, spay/neuter surgery, and teeth cleaning with digital x-rays. The newly retired greyhound also gets a monthly parasite/heartworm preventative, plus a monthly flea/tick preventative. Any other medical issues that may be present are also addressed.
Greyhounds waiting to find their forever families are placed in foster homes to learn about home life. We cover all of the foster costs, including food and any veterinary needs. Our experienced adoption coordinators work closely with adopters to find the ideal match for both the greyhound and forever family.
Newly adopted greyhounds go home fully vetted, microchipped, with a collar and leash, and some dog food. And, unique to NLGA, we provide veterinary care for nearly all pre-existing conditions the greyhound may have for the life of the hound. We provide follow-up support to new forever families. We also provide a greyhound community for all past, present, and future adopted greyhounds and their families with meet-and-greets, social events, picnics, parades, fundraisers, group walks, and lots of other activities, too.
We find responsible homes for retired racing greyhounds -- and so much more! Your support directly impacts all that we do for retired racing greyhounds.
Thank you!
