What would you do if your child no longer had access to lunch...for 3 months?
Hard to imagine, but if for 9 months you needed to depend on the free/reduced lunch program to feed your child, then the last day of school means the last lunch they can count on eating a meal for 3 months. NACE helps to alleviate that problem by providing additional "kid friendly" foods for families with school age children in June, July, and August. During the intake process, we record how many children are in the home, and for every 2 children, 1 bag of approximately 20 pounds of additional foods are given. A summer bag may include:
- 1 box macaroni and cheese
- 2 cans soup (chicken noodle, etc.)
- 2 packages Ramen noodles (or cup of noodles)
- 1 box/bag of pasta
- 2 cans spaghetti sauce
- 2 canned meals (ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, etc.)
- 1 box/bag cereal or instant oatmeal
- 1 peanut butter
- 1 canned fruit
- 1 canned vegetable
- 1 can juice, juice boxes or hot cocoa mix
- 1 package hot dogs
- Potential extras (cookies, granola bars, pudding, fruit cups, etc.)
- NACE will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs.
Please consider being part of the hunger solution this summer with a generous donation to NACE!
