Imagine...every 83 minutes in Minnesota…there is a sexual assault. Every 53 minutes in Minnesota…one child is abused or neglected. Last year in Minnesota…thirty-three women and children were murdered as the result of domestic violence or child abuse. These statistics are only a few of the many... Now imagine...where does that person go for support?
New Horizons Crisis Center (NHCC) is here for both victims of crime and their loved ones, providing free and confidential services. At NHCC, we believe that being a victim of crime can be an ongoing, life-altering experience and we are committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental environment through listening, advocating and empowering individuals to transition from victim to survivor. A person does not need to go through this alone. We are here to help.
New Horizons Crisis Center is a crime victim service agency, which serves the men, women and children of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray and Redwood Counties. Our mission is to work with individuals and families who have been victimized by crime, while also providing prevention and professional education services. Program areas include general crime victim advocacy, parenting time, prevention and professional education and sexual assault victim advocacy. The educational component of our programs addresses crime prevention for preschool-age children through senior citizens.
NHCC services can help clarify information and explore the feelings that may surface after a crime has occurred. We operate under the theory that the person who is a victim of crime is not responsible for what happened to them, and they deserve to have as many rights as the one accused. Victim/survivors need to be heard, and often times they need an advocate to ensure that their voice is being heard. That is what we do at New Horizons Crisis Center – we are another voice for the victim/survivor. We, as victim advocates, do not tell victim/survivors what to do, but rather provide options and explain processes so that a victim/survivor can make an informed choice.
We strive to make the communities we serve a better place in which to live, raise a family and do business - hopefully making an impact one person at a time right here in Southwest Minnesota.
