MN Pocket Pet Rescue

Our mission at MN Pocket Pet Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome vulnerable pocket pets. Through dedicated care and unwavering compassion, we strive to provide each animal with a second chance at life in a safe and loving home.

Our Story: 

Today, we’re on a mission to raise $7,500 in just 24 hours—a critical goal that ensures over 70 pocket pets in our care will continue to receive the specialized care they desperately need. These animals have faced abandonment, neglect, and harsh conditions in the wild, and we’re determined to give each of them a safe, supportive, and loving future. But we can’t do it alone.

Every gift made on Give to the Max Day will be doubled, up to $2,600, thanks to the generosity of Sim Sounds and Video Inc, Pets Remembered, Beaudry Hometown Insurance, Karen and Tammy Cohen, and an anonymous donor. This means your donation can go twice as far in supporting the rescue. Plus, all donations of $25+ will receive a special edition pocket pet sticker!

Rescue: The First Step to Safety

Every year, countless domestic pocket pets are surrendered to our rescue. Unfortunately, some don't even come to us and instead leave their pet outside where they cannot survive on their own. From a hedgehog left alone on a trail to a rat abandoned in a broken cage, these animals depend on kind-hearted people and our dedicated team to intervene. Without quick action, many of these animals would not make it. Each rescued animal brings new costs for intake, care, and treatment. Today, your support enables us to continue these life-saving rescues for animals who have nowhere else to turn.

Rehabilitation: Healing and Building Trust

Rescue is just the beginning. For many of our animals, the healing journey requires extensive medical treatment and specialized care. Each rescued pet undergoes intake exams, and many need additional treatments to recover from serious health issues. Currently, our rescue is providing ongoing care for guinea pigs with cancer, rats with cysts, and other animals needing long-term rehabilitation. With rising veterinary expenses—totaling over $23,000 this year alone—your donation today helps ensure that every animal receives the high-quality care they need to thrive.

Rehoming: New Beginnings for Pocket Pets

Our goal is to place each pocket pet in a loving forever home. Adoption is the final and most fulfilling chapter of their journey, where they can begin a new life filled with joy, comfort, and companionship. Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve been able to help countless pocket pets find happiness with families who cherish them. Who is Minnesota Pocket Pet Rescue?

MN Pocket Pet Rescue is a non-profit, 100% volunteer-run, foster-based organization committed to the rescue and adoption of small animals in Minnesota. We rescue and find good homes for the following 11 species:  chinchillas, rats, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, mice, gerbils, hamsters, degus, sugar gliders, and hedgehogs. 

Our rescue animals are cared for in private foster homes where they are properly housed and receive love and socialization. MN Pocket Pet Rescue provides all foster homes with the housing, food, bedding, and enrichment needed for their foster animal. 

During a pet’s stay with a foster from our rescue, we cover the cost of all intake exams, treatment for any illnesses, and necessary surgical procedures (such as tumor removal surgeries). All procedures are completed through our trusted veterinary partners at Maplebrook Pet Care Center, Como Park Animal Hospital, and other local clinics.
