About Us
Established in 1976, Mixed Blood Theatre is a social justice organization catalyzing action and change through art. Our mission is to use theater to disrupt injustice, advance equity, and build community to inspire the global village to create ripple effects of social change. We model reciprocity, inclusion, and genuine welcoming to build relationships and create true community dialogue.
Radical Hospitality
Our work is guided by deep community engagement and rooted in Radical Hospitality. We eliminate barriers that prevent people from participating due to lack of resources, racism, physical accessibility, gender discrimination, or other barriers. Tickets are available at no cost to attendees.
Donations are essential and welcomed to help support our program costs.
Our 2024-2025 Season - What Will You Do?
Mixed Blood is pleased to announce our 2024 - 2025 Season: “What will YOU do?” Consisting of three incredible productions, these performances ask audiences to consider the actions they will take to disrupt injustices. In addition, we are launching a year round project called Equitable Dinners, bringing theatre and dialogue into people’s homes and beyond. This season redefines what theater is, where it can happen, and who gets to make it.
“More and more, I realize that we have to create pathways for action; to build opportunities for audiences to do something. These plays offer those opportunities, whether it’s through the production itself or happens around the play, we’re asking folks, ‘What are YOU going to do?’”
The Ally by Tony Award-winning playwright Itamar Moses. Directed by Mark Valdez. Exploring some of the most contentious issues of our time (Israel, Palestine, Black Lives Matter), this powerful play centers on a Jewish college professor who agrees to sign a student's manifesto in response to a lethal case of police brutality. Soon, the lines between the personal and political blur and he is forced to confront his identity, faith, and what it means to be an ally.
Performance dates: October 24th — November 10th, 2024
Upstream Co-Created by Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay, Ryan Hill, Blossom Johson, and Johanna Keller Flores. Directed by Alejandro Tey with Alyssa Vera Ramos and Rebekah Rentze. This world-premiere, immersive play about climate resilience guides audiences on a search for the river's missing daughter, taking action towards climate justice while making a beautiful climate future. Created in collaboration with the Open World Learning School and over a dozen community partner organizations, this participatory event will be staged throughout a school campus.
Performance dates: April 11, 2025 - April 26, 2025
We are also thrilled to be introducing a new exciting year-long project: Equitable Dinners Bringing together strangers and friends from diverse backgrounds to experience theatre, share a meal, and talk about complex issues, these plays will be presented in people’s homes across the metro area. Each quarter, we will unveil a new play addressing a new topic: mental health, affordable housing, climate resiliency, and racial equity. This dinner program series concept and name was created by Out Of Hand Theater in Atlanta.
