Who We Are

Missed the Boat Theatre is a non-profit community theatre founded in 2019 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. We're dedicated to fostering vibrant Catholic community through high quality, artistic creations on the stage. Our shows are made to share the joys of Catholic community with our audiences, and we hope that everyone who sees one of our shows walks away feeling the love we have for one another and for the Lord.

Theatre Productions

We produce an annual large cast mainstage show. We are dedicated to supporting the development of new work, and have been able to produce two original musicals so far: Catholic Young Adults: The Musical and Moonshine Abbey. As we grow, we hope to continue to further opportunities for Catholic and Christian playwrights to write, finesse, and see their shows produced onstage.

We also endeavor to bring an innovative lens to classic shows (like our 2022 production of Sense and Sensibility), inviting artists and audiences alike to find the true, good, and beautiful in the creative process and in human stories told onstage.

Our annual Benefit Cabaret serves to support our other programming and operations, while also being an opportunity for artists to perform favorite show tunes or original work. Artists get to step outside their regular roles onstage and off, and many see the Cabaret as a unique avenue to embrace and share their creative gifts when their phase of life may not allow participation in a mainstage show. Patrons have the opportunity to engage with artists and to eat, drink, and be merry as they enjoy the show and get to know the heart of the community.

Spiritual Retreats

Theater, nearly unique among art forms, has as its instrument the human person (that is, the actor). This means that the experience of participating in theater has a profound impact on the person, from the outside-in (for better or for worse). It also means that spiritually forming people towards greater unity with God and integration of their mind, body, and spirit is an essential part of creating theater healthily, holistically, and meaningfully. We believe that development of the human person is an essential part of our mission as Catholic theater makers. Thus, we host spiritual retreats and programming throughout the year to encourage people to open themselves up to God and His gifts to us.

Education

We also offer classes so that anyone can grow in their comfort onstage and off and improve their theatrical skills. These have ranged from acting classes exploring the historic schools of theater and integrating personal growth with acting fundamentals to dance classes helping actors confidently perform choreography onstage. We are also building partnerships with schools to offer formation in our holistic approach to theater to undergraduate and high school students.

Growth and Support

To help sustain and improve our existing programming, and to create new opportunities looking ahead, we have recently chosen to invest in expanding our team. As a result, this is a pivotal year in Missed the Boat Theatre’s growth and development, and we hope that you will invest in us as well.

Please join us in our mission, first and foremost in prayer, and if you are able, financially as well. Every donation, small or large, helps us offer a home to Catholic artists and an experience of God’s love through theater to all of our patrons and community members.
