MIRAC is an all-volunteer grassroots organization that has mobilized and educated the immigrant community and their allies since 2006. We believe that no one is illegal and center our work under this belief. We are led by predominantly BIPOC and immigrant community members. For over 15 years, MIRAC has mobilized community members to take action through community education, protests, marches, and demonstrations.
We organize to fight against the harmful rhetoric and laws that are used to demonize and to criminalize immigrants. During this election year it is abundantly clear that a new narrative is needed throughout our community, our state, and our nation. A narrative that amplifies the important contributions our immigrant neighbors are making in our community. A narrative of respect and dignity for all migrants.
Below are some highlights from our work during the last 12 months:
1. Partnered with immigrant organizations and faith-based organizations in Minnesota to advocate for The North Star Act, legislation that separates law enforcement efforts of local public safety officers from the work of ICE officials. Although the bill did not pass in 2024, the North Star Act will be reintroduced in 2025.
2. Organized ‘know your rights’ trainings and provided support for day laborers.
3. Organized multiple successful marches and protests in coalition with other movement and labor organizations. We continue to organize to demand legalization for all and no militarized border. This year we have co-sponsored multiple demonstrations supporting divestment from Israel, fighting for a free Palestine, and demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
4. Sent large delegations to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee (July) and to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago (August). One party vilifies immigrants and threatens to carry out mass detentions and deportations. The other party restricts the international right of immigrants to request asylum and has worked to increase border militarization.
With your support, we can continue our programs and outreach into the immigrant community. We are committed to the liberation of immigrants in this nation and will continue to act on injustice as well as invite and inspire other community voices. MIRAC is an all-volunteer organization, so 100% of your donation will go directly into funding our work.
