Uruguayan youth soccer team to USA Cup

We are excited to announce an incredible opportunity to bring a group of girls to Minnesota for a cultural and sports exchange. In July of 2025, a U14 girls' soccer team from Uruguay will travel to Minnesota to participate in the USA Cup in Blaine. This team will be the first group of girls representing the Organización Nacional de Fútbol Infantil (ONFI) to travel internationally. The global growth of women's sports is a vital step toward advancing gender equality. By making this trip annual and sustainable, we aim to help girls in Uruguay develop confidence, gain new perspectives, and enhance their leadership skills, all of which will strengthen and enrich Uruguayan culture. We invite you to support this exciting project! Consider becoming a member and making an additional contribution. There are numerous opportunities to connect and make a positive change in the lives of these young athletes. We need your help. Please support the trip and join us on this important journey!

English for Rural Uruguayan Children

An innovative English program will allow Minnesotans to teach English in rural Uruguayan communities. Minnesota-Uruguay Partners is working with educational professionals in Uruguay to help accomplish this goal. Do you or a friend or family member wish to receive information concerning helping rural Uruguayan school children learn English? Let us know if you want to help.

More About Minnesota Uruguay Partners

Did you know that the very first Ambassador to Uruguay from the United States was William Dawson Jr., who was born in St. Paul, educated at the University of Minnesota and served as President Roosevelt’s ambassador to Uruguay from 1941 to 1946? Ambassador Dawson collected many pieces of beautiful Uruguayan art now displayed in Montevideo Minnesota’s City Hall.

Did you know that on Sunday July 10, 1949, the statue of Jose Artigas, was first unveiled and presented as a gift from the people of Montevideo, Uruguay to the city of Montevideo, Minnesota. (For you that do not know, Jose Artigas is the George Washington of Uruguay.) The eleven foot bronze statue, weighing one and a half tons, as originally created by Italian sculptor Dana Costa based on a portrait by noted Uruguayan Painter Juan Manuel Blanes. The statue still stands in downtown Montevideo, Minnesota, as a symbol of the strong bond between Minnesota and Uruguay.

Did you know that Minnesota Uruguay Partners is continually involved with exchanges which benefit Uruguay and Minnesota.  This includes exchanges in fields such as equine therapy, palliative care, teaching methods, and prison reform.  These exchanges involve Minnesota volunteers going to Uruguay and Uruguayan volunteers coming to Minnesota (sometimes in January).  The volunteers provide their time and expertise for these important projects. Your donations to Minnesota Uruguay Partners helps fund the travel expenses of the volunteers.

Did you know that Minnesota Uruguay partners is continually working to bring Minnesotans who have Uruguayan contacts, whether by family, community or business, together in friendly exchanges, such as by getting together at Minnesota United games.

We look forward to your suggestions about the future endeavors of Minnesota Uruguay Partners.
