A garden is more than just soil and plants. It’s the opportunity for kids to grow and taste their first fresh tomato, a chance for an elder to move out of isolation into community, a way to repair our mental and physical health and an active step to improving our climate.

We inspire the next generation of gardeners.
Gardens are places of discovery and play. We partner with schools and organizations to teach children the importance of growing and eating fresh food, and spending time outdoors interacting with nature.
Our programs strengthen food systems.
Through our Minnesota Green and Garden-in-a-Box programs, we empower communities to grow their own food and strengthen local food systems.
We build northern gardener community.
Gardening is an activity that can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age, background or skill. Our Minnesota Green program creates green spaces and strengthens local neighborhoods.
We contribute to a healthier planet.
Gardening promotes climate-friendly practices through conservation and wildlife habitat restoration. Even small acts of gardening in the backyard can lead to meaningful changes in our environment.
We create access to gardening education.
We provide access to resources for cold-climate gardeners through our seasonal Northern Gardener magazine and online resource archive The Tool Shed.
