Since 2014, MN POC Pride’s 501 (c)3 has been identifying and connecting with those we serve. LGBTQ+ persons of color and diverse Minnesotans from across our entire state. Through direct person-to-person advocacy, and developing our especially important work, in civil engagement, HIV health advocacy, equity & equality for LGBTQ+ people of color and produce the Twin Cities Black Pride Festival weekend. Our organization works to enhance the quality of life for LGBTQ+ people of color & families living in Minnesota by cultivating the belief in equality for all and understanding & educating about both the individual commonalities and differences in the people of the LGBTQ+ community. To effectively reach traditionally disenfranchised LGBTQ+ persons of color, and affect positive change in educational, employment, social-emotional learning, and quality of life outcomes, the Minnesota People of Color Pride organization believes it is necessary to address the issues of race, culture, class, politics and sexual health, topics that are often uncomfortable for Americans to talk about. Subsequently, it is extremely difficult to affect positive change in areas where many of us in our own homes and communities still have major issues and challenges with even bringing up the subject matter of homosexuality or sexual health, let alone the issues around race.
