McLeod Emergency Food Shelf (MEFS) is a non-profit 501c (3) agency in 1983 to assist residents of McLeod County, Minnesota in the area of hunger relief. MEFS receives financial donations and food support donations from individuals, organizations, civic groups, businesses, food rescue partners, and faith partners of McLeod County.

MEFS provides grocery options through a Client Choice supermarket-style shopping model. MEFS is SuperShelf certified which encourages healthy foods and choices.   Community services and support information are available at both Glencoe and Hutchinson Distribution Sites.

MEFS can also be seen Driving Away Hunger while setting up distribution sites in 7 cities across McLeod County with its Mobile Outreach Program!

For 38 years (and counting), millions of meals have been provided through the generous support of the local community. Beginning with an initial reach of 109 households in the first year of service, recent years have tracked impact to nearly 2,000 distinct households. So far in 2022, OVER 9,000 grocery distributions have been recorded!

Hunger is not bound by age and service to individuals age 65+ has increased year over year.

MEFS IS COMMITTED TO ELIMINATING HUNGER AND FOOD INSECURITY AS WELL AS IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH EQUITABLE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS, EDUCATION, AND ADVOCACY.
