Majority in the Middle

Majority in the Middle is an objective, outside force for systemic change to improve transparency, participation and civility within political and civic life.

We're giving those in the middle a place to gather outside the back-and-forth,
elevating voices of people who are modeling behavior we want to see,
and working on ways to bring a little more civility and a little less partisanship to our politics.

WHAT WE DO

We're helping to re-engage those who have opted out of civic engagement. We need those who believe in civil discourse, in bipartisanship and collaboration, and in working across differences to get involved in our democratic institutions -- as participants or as leaders.

We’re creating a roadmap to restore civility, transparency and trust in our governmental bodies. This will help enable the leadership we need at every level -- from our elected officials to our neighborhoods to our civic organizations.

We're working to stop labeling and segregating ourselves and each other. Disagreements are okay. Addressing disagreements with an openness to listening and understanding between individuals and across groups is an essential skill we all need.

HOW WE DO IT

• We host events, sometimes in person and sometimes on Zoom.
• We produce original research.
• We engage with elected officials and members of the news media.
• We create and share thought leadership.
• We convene and interact with like-minded (and sometimes not-so-like-minded) organizations.
• We do speaking engagements and trainings for businesses, community groups, civic clubs, and TEDx. 

WHY WE DO IT

Ultimately, we are striving for politics we can be proud of, and inclusive policy-making that will lead to better outcomes.

Imagine good ideas getting fair consideration regardless of where those ideas came from.

Imagine candidates for office being valued for their skill convening people of different beliefs and backgrounds.

Imagine constituents feeling like their interests are respected and represented, whether they share the same political affiliation with their elected officials or not.

Imagine members of different political parties working together to defeat a problem -- instead of working to defeat each other.

Imagine that differences become an asset, instead of an obstacle.
