Little Bird & Co., PSC provides veterinary care for underserved animals such as birds, reptiles, poultry, waterfowl in historically underrepresented communities.  We also strive to support the veterinary community with life work balance.

Our Story

Little Bird & Co., PSC was formed during the pandemic to address the veterinary need of very often underserved animals (the "little birds") in Minnesota.  As the pandemic lengthened, many aspects of veterinary medicine changed.  Wait times became longer at emergency clinics.  Fewer and fewer DVMs continued practice medicine for birds, reptiles and poultry in our area than ever before as experienced clinicians left the profession due to work/life balance issues, overloaded schedules, understaffing, and retirement.  Of note, there are many practitioners so overloaded currently that we are facing a dire mental health crisis as a profession.  Veterinary suicide is an alarming issue that deserves more support from our community.  

At Little Bird & Co. we believe the veterinary community can be assisted by a network of peers that give us a fresh look at our profession's career opportunities.  Veterinarians who would really benefit from a change of pace are invited to come work with our organization to learn more about species they don't usually see, or can be matched with a colleague for shadowing and 1 on 1 peer support.  In some cases, we are able to provide a week of rest in a novel environment.  

Sometimes, helping students learn is very helpful to our doctors.  Any veterinarian that is interested in spending time with us is encouraged to teach our staff and students about their career path and expertise.  

Our vision is to accommodate all of the above programs at one destination, within the next 5 years.

Currently, there is only a 2 week program at the University of MN College of Veterinary Medicine.  As Little Bird & Co., PSC continues to grow we will have more opportunities for future students to learn from our veterinary team.  With a land purchase we will be able to house our many pro-bono patients, student interns, and of course our store and clinic.  

Currently Little Bird & Co. , PSC is in the early planning stages for our build and is operating as a charitable foundation to assist exotic animals in receiving veterinary care by supporting our community members financially in times of need to ensure these deserving little friends get the care they need when they need it.
