The Minnesota Division Izaak Walton League of America works to protect our soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife.
Since 1922, Izaak Walton League members have been Defenders of Soil, Air, Woods, Waters and Wildlife. Our organization was founded to protect the upper Mississippi River from drainage; we obtained a 200 mile-long Wildlife Refuge to do so. “Ikes” led the charge in Minnesota to found our state’s 1.3 million acre state wildlife management area system. Since the 1920’s we have been at the forefront of the fight for wilderness protection for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
Our sixteen chapters across the state provide the local organizations from which Ikes provide conservation leadership at a local level. We sponsor educational programs, provide scholarships for youth, and buy and restore wetlands, woods and prairies.
And, we work together statewide on these current priorities:
- Protecting our
waters and wetlands from agricultural pollution
- Defending Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters
against the toxic legacy of sulfide ore mining
- Promoting research and effective tools and practices to combat the threat of aquatic invasive species
- Doing our part to address Global Warming via our Energy Program promoting renewable energy for our chapters and helping our communities achieve access to renewable energy resources in their communities.
Please contribute $30, $50,
or $100 today to help us activate our powerful network of citizen leaders to
speak up for the Earth! Now more than ever our our state, nation and planet need your help.
