Connecting India and Minnesota!

Since 1973, India Association of Minnesota (IAM) has been serving the Minnesota community through its three prong mission of Connection, Charity and Culture.

For over 50 years, India Association of Minnesota has been fostering connection between the Asian Indian diaspora and the broader communities we live in the great State of Minnesota. IAM serves to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Minnesota's Asian Indian community and educate the wider community about India's diversity of ancient cultures, traditions, art forms, languages, peoples and contributions to the world.

IAM provides a unique platform for Minnesotans, bringing together a host of Asian Indian organizations- those representing different States of India, different faiths of India, those serving in the educational, cultural, spiritual, artistic, healthcare, social, charitable and community-service realms. IAM connects and partners with over 60 Minnesota based organizations to create shared experiences and learn from one another, while advancing our common interests. 

IAM proudly represents all Asian Indians in Minnesota to Minnesota.

Annually, IAM hosts its flagship event, IndiaFest, on the State Capitol grounds in August to commemorate India's Independence Day and bring a slice of India to all Minnesotans. It is truly a once-a-year, mega-celebration of India's rich cultural heritage and an opportunity for the community at large to "Experience India in a Day"

Additionally, in the past year alone, IAM has hosted events to -

• Showcase the works of local South Asian authors (Inaugural Literary Showcase)
• Raise cancer awareness among South Asians and fundraise for Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Cancer Fund (Nostalgic 90s-Cancer Awareness and Fundraiser Event)
• Empower women through financial literacy (Women's Financial Literacy Event)
• Promote and support BIPOC owned small businesses (Festival Bazaar)
• Pack in some fun, exercise and networking with a healthy dose of competition at golfing (Golf Invitational)
• Facilitate access to Indian consulate services in collaboration with the Indian Consulate General-Chicago (Consular Event)
• Promote and preserve the message of non-violence and commemorate the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi (Non-Violence Day)
• Educate, inform and mobilize eligible voters to actively engage in the democratic process (GOTV Campaign and Town Hall with Secretary of State)

At the heart of IAM's mission is connection. Every year IAM hosts Connect India, bringing together local, regional, cultural and service partners working to serve Asian Indians under one roof to share our goals, explore ideas and areas of collaboration.

Concurrently, IAM works to connect the Asian Indian community members to their elected officials and to the boarder Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities in Minnesota. IAM facilitates conversations with the government at local, state and federal levels to inform policymakers of the community's priorities. Through advocacy, IAM is working to strengthen the voices of the Asian Indian community in Minnesota.
