HumanistsMN

A nonprofit organization

Secular by Nature. Ethical in Purpose.

HumanistsMN is a secular community that promotes ethical living, widespread human flourishing, and a healthy planet through its commitment to science, reason, compassion, and creativity. We welcome humanists, atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers who are seeking a caring community of like-minded people.

This year, we launched a Fuel Our Growth, Fund Our Future campaign to hire a part-time staff member. This crucial role will help sustain our programming, launch new initiatives, and ensure our organizational stability. HumanistsMN is committing $10,000 from our reserves to kick off this campaign. We need your support to raise the remaining $50,000 to fund our Director of Operations through an initial 18-24 months of work.

We hope to raise this amount by April 30, 2025.

Why Now?

Our Work Is Critical

Christian nationalism is on the rise, threatening our democracy and jeopardizing the separation of religion and government. Derision and fear mongering are running rampant, tearing our society apart. Our work has already made a difference — such as helping establish the Secular Government Caucus at the state Legislature and providing many opportunities for personal connection and doing good together. But to continue and expand our efforts, we’ve reached a tipping point where we must move beyond our all-volunteer model.

Our Community Is Growing

Our membership at HumanistsMN has increased significantly over the past three years, a sign of the growing interest in secular values, humanist community, and the effectiveness of our programs and outreach. Hiring a staff member will help us to properly support our flourishing community.

About HumanistsMN

Powered exclusively by volunteers, HumanistsMN uses all money to promote humanism, build a humanist community, and do good together. We sponsor a wide range of activities, including monthly chapter meetings with speakers, discussion groups, volunteer work, happy hours, and picnics. We advocate on issues including end-of-life options, criminal justice, the environment, and abortion rights.

You can find a calendar of our events, both online and in person, here. With your help, we can step up our work to:

  • Build a stronger statewide network of secular groups.
  • Increase our membership by reaching out to the growing number of Americans who are religiously unaffiliated and secular, including families who can educate the next generation of humanists.
  • Attract prominent speakers to discuss humanism and other significant political and social topics.
  • Encourage policymakers to make decisions based on science and evidence.
  • Lobby for laws that reflect humanist values, including one to allow terminally ill people to request medical aid to bring about a peaceful death.

Please donate today to help us create a more compassionate and rational world!
