For 12 years, Hopewell's mission has been to improve access to music education in North Minneapolis through affordable, inclusive, and engaging music programs. 

Founded  by Northside music educators concerned by the lack of performing arts in our community, Hopewell provides music opportunities for emerging and lifelong musicians. We envision a thriving music community in North Minneapolis, where everyone has equal opportunity to nurture and share their talents regardless of race, income, ability, or musical background.

Hopewell strives to remove barriers to music education experienced by the community, which include:

Financial: Hopewell offers standard, pay-what-you-will, sliding scale, and full scholarship tuition rates to ensure all families can access programming. 66% of students received scholarships during the 2023-24 year, an increase of 23% since 2020.

Geographic: Community members do not have access to the physical resources needed to participate in music programs. The nearest place to purchase music, rent instruments, or take lessons is more than 30 minutes away by car, or 60+ minutes (plus ½ mile walk) via public transit.

Systemic: North Minneapolis community and arts programs are continually under-resourced North Minneapolis community and arts programs. Access to music education is repeatedly under threat with budget cuts. 

Music plays a role in fostering community across cultures and brings people together through a shared experience. Hopewell brings together Northside community members–students of all ages, families, professional musicians, teachers and audience members – to build organic relationships through the shared love for music and community. Learning a new instrument, harmonizing together in a choir or playing drums in a circle, are experiences that help transcend our differences and build community based on social confidence, connectedness and self-expression.
