Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter

The Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter is passionately devoted to the care of animals in need, by providing rescue, shelter, adoption, and veterinary services in central Minnesota.

Since 1999 we have helped over 9,800 cats and dogs. 

 As an independent animal welfare organization, HMAS does not receive funding from any national, state, county or municipal entity. We rely solely on generous donations and adoption fees to support our ongoing mission!

Averaging about 500 intakes each year, the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter is excited to be close to finishing our brand new dog facility. With this building, we will be able to house more dogs at a time, allowing us to help more families and dogs in need. 

The new dog facility will also be located on the same property as our cat shelter, which will excitingly place all of our animals in one easy to find location! 

We have some really exciting ideas that should be turning into reality in 2025 and are thankful to have amazing supporters that help make it all possible.

VOLUNTEERS...
We can always use more help. If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by our facilities during adoption hours and fill out a volunteer application. If you have a talent, we can use it...if you don't want to work directly with the animals, we have plenty of behind-the-scenes projects available too.

Harlow, one of our longest feline residents, was recently adopted and featured in a Newsweek article - https://www.newsweek.com/cat-spends-363-days-shelter-before-getting-adopted-1989018. Your donation helps us provide happy endings for all of our residents - canine or feline. 

ADOPT A NEW FRIEND...

Through a partnership with PetSmart of Hutchinson, we now have cats available for adoption 7 days a week at their store. Please visit PetSmart to find your new feline friend. Alternatively, we have dogs and cats available during our adoptions hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7pm and Saturdays 1-5pm. You'll find a list of available animals on our website.
