What We Do

From May to September we offer classes in ceramics, drawing, literary arts, mixed-media, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. From October to April, we offer opportunities for artists of every caliber to use our studios for residencies and exhibitions and public engagement opportunities. Our two signature events are the Grand Marais Arts Festival, held every July, and the North Shore Readers and Writers Festival, held every other year.

The Annual Fund is a driving force for the Art Colony. It sustains the innovative programming, studio access, scholarships, and resources that make this institution exceptional. More importantly, it propels artists toward our bold vision to become a powerful space for facilitating dialogue on issues facing the Great Lakes Region through aesthetic inquiry and artistic experimentation.
