The mission of Good in the ‘Hood is: To influence, inspire and impact individuals, families and entire communities for good.
Good in the 'Hood is dedicated to changing lives together with simple acts of kindness. We believe that goodness and kindness are inspirational, change-agent qualities and it is our desire to inspire individuals, families and entire neighborhoods to take responsibility and ownership for the growth, improvement and well-being of their personal lives and community. Through partnerships and kindness-based initiatives we believe the physical, emotional and spiritual climate of an entire community can be changed for good.
Each month, with the help of our many dedicated partners and volunteers, we provide practical resources such as new or gently-used shoes, groceries, meals, food for hungry college students, backpacks for students, holiday support and more for over 4,500 individuals. In addition, we make user-friendly volunteer opportunities available for a variety of individuals and church, school, civic and corporate groups.
Through this GiveMN campaign, we have a goal of raising $20,000 to expand our efforts to provide essential resources for the economically disadvantaged communities and for all those who have been marginalized by difficult circumstances in and around the Twin Cities metro area. Specifically, your gift will help serve the following programs:
Food in the ‘Hood: Part of the magic of Good in the 'Hood is the caring community that is created among donors, volunteers, and clients. We are family. As a family, we enjoy sharing our resources and perhaps even a meal together. The service of groceries and a hot meal at our Food in the 'Hood distribution centers in Bloomington and Minneapolis help to create a warm and friendly environment for people to connect and become friends. So many times, we find that it is community that helps people to move forward in life. Sharing resources and burdens, life is easier to navigate when you are surrounded by a caring community and have a greater sense of belonging. We invite you to JOIN our community and invest in fostering a flourishing community!
Holiday Help: This program aims to bring much needed hope, relief and a practical expression of kindness to hurting people during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season. In 2016, Good in the 'Hood distributed over 3000 Thanksgiving baskets for families in need and sponsored 930 families for the Christmas holiday. With your generous help, this year, we will be helping over 4000 people for Thanksgiving and 1000+ families for Christmas. Every generous gift helps another child or family in need. Give generously and help us offer some Holiday Help for those in need!
Shoe Away Hunger: This innovative hunger relief program is a social enterprise that collects new and used shoes to provide shoes for needy individuals, as well as recycling/resale of shoes to raise funds to support our hunger relief programs. With the addition of our Shoe Bus, we are able to hold shoe sales/distributions with host sites serving people in need around the Twin Cities. It only takes 1 pair of new or gently-used shoes for us to provide 7 days of essential groceries for someone in need. Please help us to eliminate local hunger ONE SOLE AT A TIME!
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about us. I hope you will join with us in our efforts to inspire intentional kindness.
