Help Us Help Your Library

Since it was formed in 2004, the Friends of the Howard Lake Library has focused on making the library a welcoming and larger part of the community.

We feel that instilling the love of reading at a young age opens the world and all of its possibilities. To that end the Friends support the extras that make the annual summer reading program a rousing success. For the past ten years the group has paid for bussing the district's first grade students to the library to learn what wonders are waiting for them within those walls. The beloved summer story time is financed by the Friends as is the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. In its inaugural year, five students have already completed the required 1,000 books and were celebrated with a graduation ceremony complete with mortar board hats, certificates and gifts.

The Friends continue to provide funding for children, teen and adult programming. The group has provided comfortable furniture to create a retreat to read a paper, a magazine, a book or to use the library's free  Wi-Fi. The children's area has been enhanced with a colorful area rug, child-sized table and chairs and Big Blue:  a custom organizer and display area featuring a painted underwater theme.

The work with which we have tasked ourselves is never complete. There is always one more project, one more program, one more update. Please help continue our mission.
