Freshwater is on a mission to inspire and empower people to value and preserve water. We do this through research, education and policy work that is made possible by your generous contributions.

For more than 50 years, we have tackled complex water issues by fostering collaboration between local communities, businesses, universities, government agencies, charitable foundations and conservation partners. Your donations help us strengthen these critical connections that will ensure a clean water future here in Minnesota and beyond.

Here are just a few highlights of Freshwater programs and projects:

• Minnesota Water Stewards - We are celebrating 10 years of this groundbreaking program that trains and certifies volunteers to become community leaders for clean water. Learn more.
• Groundwater Governance - Freshwater is leading a multi-phase project to study how groundwater is regulated in the Great Lakes region, to provide policy recommendations, and to involve tribal governments and other stakeholders in sustainably managing groundwater over the long term. Learn more.
• Water Workforce Pathways - Our newest initiative connects across public and private sectors to increase visibility and access to abundant, stable, well-paying jobs in the water industry. Learn more.
• State Water Policy Work - Each year, we work with Minnesota lawmakers, state agencies and partners to advance water policy. Freshwater’s legislative priorities include topics such as watershed improvement and soil health, drinking water protection, and public infrastructure funding. Learn more.
• Greater Lakes Promise - Freshwater is leading a regional partnership to improve Great Lakes water quality by partnering with five land trusts to permanently protect select lands in key watersheds. Learn more.
