Parenting today, even under the best of circumstances, is hard. Earlier this year, the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory highlighting the mental health struggles many parents face—stress, guilt, shame, and isolation have become all too common. Now imagine parenting challenges compounded by poverty, housing instability, or custody issues.
FamilyWise helps the parents feeling isolated and overwhelmed in our communities find the support they need for families to thrive. Through our parent education and support programs, FamilyWise equips parents with information and resources to nurture and advocate for themselves and for their children.
“To have FamilyWise parent education and coaching set up for once a week to talk about what was going on in my life, and what was going on in my child's life was extremely valuable. I received a lot of helpful information that helped me be a better parent and supported me through the journey of the custody process.
Something that we talked about was the importance of being able to take care of oneself, and being in a good place first – emotionally, mentally, physically – before being able to really be there for your child, or for someone else.” – Parent Education participant
Each year more than 1,100 families across the state gain skills, confidence, and community connections through FamilyWise. When you give to FamilyWise, you help parents reduce stress, combat isolation, and build resilience.
“Raising healthy, educated, and fulfilled children is at the heart of building a strong future. It benefits all of society. And it is a collective responsibility.” - U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy
Since 1976, FamilyWise has pursued our mission: to strengthen families by promoting the safety, stability, and wellbeing of children. Our vision is for a world where every child thrives. Our work is statewide, serving families and communities in 52 counties and three tribal communities.
