We believe that every child has the right to live free from abuse and neglect, and to feel safe, respected, valued and treated with dignity in public and family life. At FEC, we support children, youth, and families who have experienced traumatic events, making resilience a real possibility. Children can tolerate even severe stress if stable, responsive adult relationships are in place to buffer the negative impact. With the right support, buffered by protective factors, children have the capacity to thrive despite adverse life experiences. We support families to increase their time and capacity for supportive family relationships.
FEC acknowledges the complexity of the challenges faced by children, youth, and families entering our programs. Our programs are designed to address not only urgent concerns, but also the numerous barriers families face because of social, economic and racial inequality. In partnership with communities and systems we work to promote child well-being. strengthen family capacity to thrive, and to prevent maltreatment and family separation by creating the safe, stable environments that children need.
