Ely-Winton Historical Society

A nonprofit organization

Welcome to our fundraising page for Give to the Max Day! This year, we are seeking funding to upgrade museum technology by digitizing film reels, VHS tapes and CDs, as well as purchase a new flat screen for viewing. Our goal is to have an interactive exhibit showcasing media in our collection that would otherwise become defunct.

VHS tapes deteriorate over time and DVDs scratch and crack. Films on reels are tricky, at best, to work with. We have many stories to share and limited capacity to do so. We will use a professional media storage company to transfer and safely secure the numerous stories held in our collection.

Digitizing the media means that you will have easy access to it in our museum and through, eventually, our website. This is all part of a larger effort to make our resources readily available to all.

BACKGROUND

The mission of the Ely-Winton Historical Society is to identify, collect and preserve artifacts, photographs, documents, and other articles relating to the Ely-Winton area, and to share information about the history and culture of the local area through public display of relics and evidence of history.  The Society maintains a museum and historical research center and sells publications about local history. As a non-profit organization, the Society relies upon grants and donations from the public for its continued operation.
