Dowling Elementary

Our students spend as much time as possible outdoors, playing, exploring and learning from the environment. We provide daily recess along with environmental science classes that take place outdoors. We have formed a wellness committee that is putting together recess kits that consist of jump ropes, soccer balls, soft balls, frisbees, hula hoops, basketballs, small cones along with other items for outdoor play. Our goal is to have a kit for each grade level with enough equipment in them for all three classrooms to play with. We would also like to provide a kart for all of the equipment that can be taken outdoors. Each kit will cost around $300 - $400 with additional fees for the carts.

Our goal is to keep kids active! We are in a unique position with the extensive grounds our school is situated on along with being across the street from the Mississippi River. If it is within the district temperature guidelines, our students go outside! We have plenty of land to have a football game and a soccer game going, along with space for children to play basketball, swing, jump rope and hula hoop. We want to see this happening on all of our playground areas every day! With your help we can provide all of our students with equipment to play with that encourages active play with their peers.
