Behind every Door is a Story...

One cold shelter night, at the end of a difficult day, Craig Lorraine expressed a wish to staff:

“Sometimes I just wish I had a door … a door I can close!”

Craig was a beloved and cherished brother of four sisters, a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and a proud Navy veteran who served his country during the Persian Gulf War.  He was known in the communities of Northampton and Amherst, and used his musical talents as a way of giving back to the community who loved him. His untimely death in February of 2011 saddened many.

Craig's wish inspired both our name, and our mission - Because Everyone Deserves a Door of their Own.

Craig's Doors has several successful programs, including:

Craig's Place, our behavior based emergency shelter

Student Resource Advocacy Program
Where students work with shelter guests to apply for jobs, benifits, and housing

Wednesday Community Breakfast
Every week at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst

Case Management Services
We have one case manager who works with clients during the week, helping shelter guests work on the larger issues keeping them from housing.

We are building a Housing First program, with the goal of housing 12 individuals in 2016.  These will be people who have been on the streets for a long time, and who need intensive case management to help them remain housed.

We are excited to have you participate in our work at Craig's Doors.  THANK YOU!
