Community Members for Environmental Justice (CMEJ) is a coalition of dedicated community members, mothers, and youth in North Minneapolis who are committed to addressing the environmental injustices that disproportionately affect low-income communities of color. Founded in 2018 by Roxxanne O'Brien, with guidance from co-founder Shalini Gupta, CMEJ focuses on advocating for policies that reduce pollution and protect public health in areas burdened by industrial contamination. These communities face a legacy of environmental harm from fossil fuel pollution and other industrial toxins, leading to significant health challenges. Since its inception in 2012, CMEJ has worked tirelessly to amplify the voices of residents and push for government and industry accountability.

CMEJ’s work is driven by over a hundred engaged members who come from all sectors of the community, including residents, activists, and local leaders. The coalition is dedicated to creating long-term change through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and public education. CMEJ seeks to ensure that environmental justice is prioritized in policy decisions that affect their neighborhoods. Support CMEJ on Give to the Max Day to help us continue our mission of creating cleaner, healthier, and more equitable communities for all.
