This year, Coffee House Press is welcoming you to look deeper into what it takes to get from an original manuscript to publication day! As an independent, nonprofit publisher, we rely on individual donors to support us to take creative risks, nurture new talent, and ensure that literature remains a space for discovery, not just for profit. Literature is the least supported artistic discipline in the U.S., receiving only 1.9% of the $5 billion in arts grants awarded in 2023 per data collected from Candid. 

Coffee House Press began as a small letterpress operation in 1972 and has grown into an internationally renowned nonprofit publisher of literary fiction, essay, poetry, and other work that doesn’t fit neatly into genre categories. CHP fosters a community of voices that inspire, challenge, and connect readers. 

How would your donations impact?

$1-$25 impacts:

•  A couple hours of typesetting which arranges all the words you see on the page
• 1-3 printed final copies.

$25-$50 impacts:

- 1-2 hours of copyediting ensuring that text is free of grammatical and continuity errors and adheres to style guidelines set by the publisher. 

- 1-2 hours of proofreading to ensure spacing, line breaks, and a final check of surface level errors

$50-$75 impacts:

- 1 book copyrighted allowing Coffee House Press to legally own the title.

- 1 hour of cover design work

$75-$100 impacts:

- 1-2 hours of alterations after proofreading

- Helps to cover printing costs

$1,000+ impacts:

• Helps to cover partial author advances
• Enters you into CHP publisher's circle
