In the past few months, we’ve witnessed extreme weather and flooding, causing death and destruction in Florida, Southern Appalachia, Acapulco, Nepal, Rio de Janeiro, Thailand, Bosnia, Paris, and Tunisia. Absolutely no one is safe from the impacts of the climate crisis. We know that burning fossil fuels and other human actions are causing climate change. While we mourn and  feel the burden of this global crisis, we know it is not too late to change our course.

Climate justice centered action and solutions start with education. We know that knowledge is power, which is why we at Climate Generation believe that the path to a world beyond the climate crisis is paved by education and intergenerational collective action. For more than 18 years, we have been building climate literacy, amplifying personal connections to climate change, and developing powerful advocates among educators, youth, and communities through collaboration and partnership. Our work addresses climate change in three areas: education, youth activism, and community engagement. We integrate Western science with Indigenous ways of knowing, center justice and anti-racism, support the leadership of youth and frontline communities, and focus on solutions grounded in climate science rather than relying on fear. Our Teach Climate Network provides support to over 8,000 educators nationally. Student leaders in our Youth Environmental Activists! program plan and host a by-youth and for-youth Climate Justice Summit at the Minnesota capitol each year that is attended by 100s of high school students from across the state.

Creating a Resilient Climate Future, Together

Climate education and youth organizing are under attack. Along with the targeting of racial justice and queer studies, climate education is being derided by the far Right as harmful and unnecessary. This hit close to home recently when Ted Cruz named Climate Generation as one of a handful of dangerous climate change education and youth-organizing entities corrupting America’s youth.

Under a Trump administration, support for federal climate change education is going to go away. It will fall to non-profit and community-based organizations to continue the work. Climate Generation will carry the torch for the foreseeable future. We are ready to do that, and we need resources to expand  capacity to meet the demand.

It is a critical time to take a stand for climate justice and defend the importance of climate education in the classroom and the community, but we can’t do it alone.

Join us as we continue to build power through education and co-create a better world with our young people. This Give to the Max Day, we ask you to make a personally meaningful gift to help us reach our goal of $50,000 so that we may continue the good work of lifting up climate justice literacy and solutions.

While our work is threatened, we are not afraid. We are confident that climate change literacy and collective action will change our course and shepard in the just transition. We are building a movement for the future and your donation fuels and sustains that movement. Together we can create a just and abundant world beyond the climate crisis.
