Upcoming Event: The 4th of July Flying Pancake Breakfast Returns!

Returning for its 16th year in Wayzata, the Flying Pancake Breakfast invites hungry guests to the Historic Wayzata Depot, 402 Lake St. E., for breakfast and a celebration honoring veterans.

Event proceeds (via sponsorships or event ticket sales) will be granted to Minnesota children of injured or deployed military parents, and scholarship grants will be given to outstanding Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets in Minnesota.

$5,000 was donated to local veteran's children in 2018!

The lakeside event, which regularly attracts nearly 1,500 visitors, is hosted by the Lake Minnetonka Children of the American Revolution.

Where does the flying part of the event come in?  Guests will use their plates to catch airborne pancakes launched by the cooks stationed behind the griddle. Walk-up service is also available. The breakfast will also include sausage, coffee, cold drinks and a free flag.

The event runs on July 4th, from 8 a.m.-noon, with a 10 a.m. program honoring veterans (including a 7-gun rifle volley) . The breakfast is $7, and veterans eat free of charge.

The patriotic event began as a service project by youth members of the Lake Minnetonka Children of the American Revolution as a way to present an educational, historical and fun event that honors veterans.

The 7th Pennsylvania Regiment of Revolutionary actors, the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard and the Daughters of the American Revolution will also return to join the celebration. Period-costumed actors will fire their muskets, talk about their uniforms and educate visitors on the history of Independence Day and the men and women who helped found the nation.
