Honoring the Past...Inspiring the Future

In the aftermath of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident, the families of the astronauts founded Challenger Center to continue the educational mission of the historic crew and create an organization that would excite and inspire students about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects and careers. Now a world-class STEM organization, there are over 40 Challenger Learning Centers around the globe all focused on energizing our next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators. The Challenger Learning Center of Minnesota was accepted to join the global Challenger Center network and we are working hard to bring this unique and powerful experience to the youth, educators, families and communities of Minnesota. While the journey to bringing a permanent Challenger Center facility to Minnesota is moving forward, we are raising funds to support our expanding outreach programs serving schools, the community and under-served youth in the Twin Cities. We have engaged thousands of students around the metro through our outreach programs, including robotics programs with schools and scouts, after school STEM programs, NASA workshops, Engineers Week programming and Girls in STEM programming. Our most notable outreach program is our robotics program that allows students to learn about robots, STEM careers and build robots themselves. We find that putting robotics in the hands of students at an early age builds confidence and knowledge that science is fun and exciting, not scary. We love to build confidence in these students and encourage them to dream big!
