Born Abel

At Born Abel, we are dedicated to supporting medically complex children, NICU babies, and angel families. Our mission is to provide resources, comfort, and hope to families facing medical challenges, from the early days in the NICU to the journey beyond. We believe in honoring every child’s unique story and offering support that brings both practical help and emotional healing.

Born Abel started from a lonely NICU room at Children’s Hospital MN, as Abel’s mama wrote the first few books while rocking him and his twin brother. 

Abel was born with Trisomy 18, and she was told that there were few children alive with Abel’s diagnosis. This inspired her to start writing books and showing the world that all children like Abel are, Born Abel. 

Our organization is powered by the passion and commitment of over 20 volunteers, who dedicate their time and talents to this cause. With a 100% volunteer team, we ensure that every dollar raised and every purchase from our nonprofit store goes directly toward supporting families in need.

Through our work, we celebrate the beauty and resilience of real children by illustrating them in our colorful children’s books. To date, we have written over 50 books and have had the privilege of illustrating over 1,000 children, giving them a place to see themselves represented and celebrated. Additionally, we provide a strong support network through over 18 Facebook support groups, where families can connect, share experiences, and find comfort in a community that understands their journey.
