Thank you to Sage Lesiak (Dual Language student at Roosevelt High School) for creating this video!
Colectiva Bilingüe (or Bilingual Education collective in English) represents the students, staff and families of all dual language (Spanish/English) Minneapolis Public Schools: Andersen Middle School, Emerson Elementary, Green Central Elementary, Las Estrellas Elementary, and Roosevelt High School. We work in partnership with each school through parent and student leadership groups to unite us as a larger community of bilingual learners in pursuit of academic bilingualism, biliteracy and the bilingual seal. We will use all funds raised through our Give to the Max campaign to fulfill requests from our Dual Language educators and caregiver groups for classroom resources, field trips and teacher appreciation lunches.
One way we support student learning in our title 1 schools is by hosting Teaching Assistants (called TAs) during each school year. International TAs have completed a teaching degree in their Latin American home countries and come to Minneapolis to gain classroom experience and to learn more about the North American school system and culture.Local TAs have been family members who have served in a similar role.
The cost to host a TA for a 10 month school year is $8000. Our goal for this year is to raise enough funds to support 1 TA for each of our 5 dual language schools.
Additionally,
$7 covers an educator's lunch during family conferences
$30 pays for a day of snacks in an elementary classroom
$300 pays for a 50-seat bus for a field trip
Through Colectiva Bilingüe, we are coming together to support each other in shared goals like advocating for the expansion of our K-12 bilingual pathway, building community and making sure that all schools have equitable access to resources, quality educators and experiences. We will gather at Roosevelt High School stadium for our4th annual Copa Colectiva on May 31st 2025 to celebrate our community through a friendly soccer tournament, cultural performances, food, and recognition of student and community achievements including the bilingual seal. We hope you can join us!
Please support us in fulfilling our educators' needs!
