Our programs help to address students' and families' essential needs so the students can have greater success in their education. We provide school uniforms or clothing through our Operation School Bell® Clothes for Kids program. We also stock our partner schools' closets with clothing and toiletries. When asked for observable changes in students receiving new school clothing, teachers observed that 70% of students show a positive change in classroom behavior, 80% observed increased student confidence, and 70% reported improvement in the students' level of engagement with peers and/or school activities. Our Food for Kids program provided weekend food bags for students in Minneapolis Public Schools to take home each week during the school year. These food bags provide items that students can prepare on their own without help from an adult lessening the stress of the entire family.
We fund teacher grants to enable learning beyond the standard curriculum. Last year we awarded 76 grants impacting students in more than 40 schools in the Twin Cities area. Some of the grant funded included field trips, guest artists, cooking classes, access to new technology, equipment for distance learning, culturally specific books, and math manipulatives. Our Literacy+ program provides one-on-one literacy mentoring for students, distributes books, funds guest authors, and other enrichment experiences at Bethune Elementary. We promote academic success by providing essential items such as school supplies, clothing, and hygiene products through our Operation School Bell Smart Start program.
We support and serve our community by providing Assault Survivor Kits® to Minnesota hospital emergency rooms for victims of sexual assault. Kits are created for women, men and children. These kits help to ease some of the assault victim's immediate stress allowing them to leave the hospital in new clothes and not in a hospital gown.
We work closely with our partner public school districts - Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Richfield - to best understand what is needed most to support their students and families. The flexibility of our programs and strong relationships and communication with our community partners allows us to address the pressing needs in our community.
Thank you for your support!
