We took some time this year to make an honest account of our work, and we were encouraged by what we saw. As a team, we floated some good questions, and they came back to us with a resounding yes to the work of Art House North - which consists of Art House North events, partner events, the music of Sara Groves (founder), and other community endeavors.
This yes came in the form of our once-a-year AHN Songwriter Workshop featuring Taylor Leonhardt, Melody Olson, and John Sunde, and was beautifully expressed in our medium-specific Artist Groups for writers, performing artists, film makers, visual artists and songwriters - each group is unique to the needs of the participants, but include gathering with like-minded artists, time to work, and some involve sharing and getting feedback. The culmination of our Artists Groups this year was a grown-up Show and Tell night that was a lovely as it gets. The annual AHN Square Dance was a good time as well, culture care > culture war, it was good for what ails us. Another resounding yes came from our partners at AHN. It was fun to watch the rave reviews roll in for Bucket Brigade’s brand new play, Survivors of the Fire, and we witnessed the birth of a new theater company with Theater Okay’s production of The Little Prince. Melody Olson of Skapa Counseling hit her stride this year providing counseling services to gifted children and adults. Our partnership with Bailey Builds was fun, and a huge shot in the arm, and brought a lot of new faces into our space.
With her music operations newly under the AHN umbrella, Sara had a year of fresh opportunities including participation in Red Vineyard, a cohort of songwriters assembled by Sandra McCracken (including Melanie Penn, Taylor Leonhardt, Andrew Osenga, Cindy Morgan and others), and worked with Dan Lawonn on a three song EP that was released as a part of the 20 year anniversary of Add To The Beauty remaster and re-release. Sara put the band back together for several dates around the country, and brought it all home for a two-night play through of the full ATTB album. This Christmas, AHN is partnering with Awaken Community Church to bring Sara and Sandra McCracken together for two Christmas shows on December 14.
In addition to all of this, AHN hosts Humble Walk church weekly, and too-many-to-mention events for and by the community we live in.
The arts are not an abstract idea. Whenever we write, make music, act, sing, dance, draw, read, discuss, laugh, applaud, develop new ideas and recover old passions, we engage with the arts, and “The Arts” have always required endowment.
Please consider Art House North in your giving for Give to the Max day to help us gain momentum for creative community for the common good in 2025. Help us reach our goal of $15,000 for more arts programming, continued team support and meaningful events in our beautiful space.
Thank you for your support!
