Appetite For Change is a nonprofit that uses food as a tool to build health, wealth, and social change in North Minneapolis. We bring people together to learn, cook, eat, and grow food, creating change that lasts. Food is a key ingredient to nourishing well-being, and each week, over 150 families receive nourishing meals—delivered free of charge and without barriers—that are carefully designed to promote a balanced and healthy diet. Our meal boxes emphasize a dignified food experience by including fresh, local produce, protein, dairy, non-perishable pantry staples like olive oil and spices, recipe cards, educational resource information, and ongoing culinary support.
As part of our Community Cooks Meal Box program, AFC sources, packages, and distributes weekly meal boxes containing 6-10 lbs of culturally appropriate fresh food—enough to provide up to six servings across two meals—to Northside community members experiencing food insecurity. AFC spends sixty-five dollars on each meal box, including the door-to-door delivery. Our focus is not just to feed our people but to ensure the quality of each box surpasses any other food charity.
North Minneapolis, a vibrant community where 75% of residents are people of color, faces significant challenges, including persistent poverty and health disparities. Food insecurity has intensified due to the closure of major grocery stores, leaving the community in desperate need of support. The Community Cooks Meal Box Program is critical in promoting racial and health equity by empowering the North Minneapolis community with quality food sourced from local BIPOC farms, GROWING food sustainability where food access has been a challenge for many.
