ANGELS of McGregor is a non-profit organization that supports our aging population stay in their homes. ANGELS offers a variety of support to those who are most vulnerable and in need. We provide assistance with transportation to appointments, chores in their homes, community meals, home assessments, foot care, Alzheimer's support groups, and activities in our building.
Our volunteers drive our clients about 300 miles a month, to doctor appointments, run errands, and visit family and friends. This is a very important to our community because we are a small area with no public transportation, so having volunteers who drive is crucial for people to access essential needs and connect with others within our limited mobility options.
ANGELS volunteers help clients with a variety of household chores. These include household cleaning and organizing, simple meal preparation, and help with correspondence and writing monthly bills. Heavier household tasks are also provided by volunteers, including yard work and snow removal, placement of safety bars and safety lighting, and installation of 911 property identification signs. In helping to keep clients’ homes safe, ANGELS provides and installs smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
ANGELS volunteers deliver AEOA frozen meals and Loaves and Fishes hot meals to clients in rural areas. Angels also Co-Sponsors a joint community meal with a different organization monthly the third Wednesday of every month. The dinner is open to all! Friends, Families and Groups can join us at 5pm for coffee followed by dinner from 5:30 -6pm. The Community Dinner is sponsored by local organizations, church groups and school programs to help support all the wonderful programs that the Angels offers our community. There is no charge for the meal, but “free will offerings” are appreciated
When contacted about a potential client, our first step is a telephone interview to assess the level and type of assistance needed. We triage the client's needs; to tailor the services we provide to meet the client's needs, and to assist the client in connecting with care providers to cover any needed services that ANGELS does not provide. Thereafter, when appropriate, we schedule a home visit. This home assessment may result in identification of additional needs that were not initially identified.
ANGELS offers foot care to our clients. We have a paid RN that works four to five days per month and does eight per-day. This is a great need in our community since our local clinic no longer offers these appointments. Foot care is very important to older adults that may not be able to take care of their own feet. It gives them an opportunity to have them checked by a RN in the event that more care is needed.
ANGELS offers Alzheimer's support groups once a month. Our volunteers have been trained by the Alzheimer's Assocation. This helps give help to both the caregiver and the one facing Alzheimer's cope. Giving them tools and support that will help them fight this horrible disease.
ANGELS has different activities and parities that we hold in our building. It is very important for socialization needs. There is always laughter and food. This bonding is important.
