The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) is a nonprofit organization, unique to Minnesota and the upper Midwest, which fosters long-term economic benefit for Minnesota through value-added agricultural products. 

AURI supports farmers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners to drive innovation and grow the state’s economy. This critical work produces success for individuals and companies, often that can’t afford a research and development department, while strengthening Minnesota’s vital agriculture industry.  

The results are clear. In FY19, AURI initiated over 80 projects and worked on over 130 projects across Minnesota and the region.  AURI prides itself on impacts and businesses attributed $261.6 million in new sales, 744 jobs created or retained, and nearly $185 million in new capital investment, mainly to rural areas, to the assistance received from AURI between FY13-19. 

AURI accomplishes this by providing subsidized industry-leading R&D assistance under its nonprofit structure. This work is achieved at AURI’s innovation labs, located throughout the state as well as, through its commercialization experts and industry connections.  Additionally, AURI conducts multiple public initiatives each year to inform the public and value chain participants, from producers to consumer facing companies, of novel new ideas to help utilize the state’s agricultural commodities. 

AURI currently operates facilities and offices in Crookston, Marshall, St. Paul and Waseca. Approximately 70 percent of AURI’s efforts go to assisting producers and businesses located in Greater Minnesota. 

Minnesotans have developed a vast number of ideas and innovations throughout the state and your contribution will allow AURI to expand its abilities and build upon its services to benefit agricultural producers, entrepreneurs, and businesses as well as rural areas.
