Support the Advancing Equity’s Homework Club!

The Advancing Equity Coalition (AEC) advances equitable policies and practices in the Minneapolis Public Schools. AEC’s theory of change is that sustainable policy change occurs when information is democratized, partnerships are forged, collective power is built, and success is publicly acknowledged and celebrated. AEC utilizes a hybrid approach of direct-service and policy change initiatives to ensure the decisions made by MPS leadership are truly reflective of the community’s needs.

One of our greatest examples of the impact of this model is the Homework Club for students of color at Washburn High School. The group serves students directly after school, at school, and meets their needs for credit recovery, collaboration, consistency, and community. The Homework Club provides students with meals, materials, and high quality learning experiences in a safe space. 

Through the Homework Club, we meet students where they’re at, build upon their strengths and success, support them in meeting graduation requirements, and engage them in policy-level discussions about school. In the coming month, the Homework Club will meet with the MPS Superintendent to share about their needs and ideas. Learn more about the Homework Club here. 

Our goals for the Homework Club are to expand the supports and resources for students and to replicate the model of Homework Club in other schools across MPS to better serve students of color across the district in a model with proven success.

A gift of $100 sponsors one student for a full month of weekly, high quality after school help and meals. 

A gift of $1,000 sponsors one student for a full year of weekly, high quality after school help and meals.
